Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - is a home for about 60 elephants (out of which around 50 are baby elephants) found abandoned or orphaned in the wild, They are being cared, fed and trained by the wild life authority. The best time for your visit is at 9 in the morning, when you will have the opportunity of seeing these ‘babes’ being bottle-fed. You could also see the elephants having their daily baths at a river close by.

Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka in 11th and 12th centuries AD which too a world heritage site. You will see here famous the Gal Viharaya where four splendid statues of Lord Buddha are to be found.
Proceed to Minneriya and do a safari of the Minneriya National Park by jeep 4x4. The extent of the Minneriya National Park is about 8,889 hectares. There are wet-lands in this National Park, which have international importance, animal and plant species, which are plenty in dry zone, are found in this park. Wild elephants, various amphibians, local and immigrant bird species are plenty in this park.

Visit Nagadeepa, Access to Nagadeepa is from the village of Kurikattuwan (Kurikadduwan) of the island of Punkudutivu which is a 20 minute boat ride over the Palk Bay. The island of Punkudutivu is connected by a causeway over the Palk Bay to Kayts, the largest island of the cluster.
Visit Delft Island : Called ‘Pasuthivu’ or ’Nedunthivu’ (the island of cows) by natives, it was named ‘Illha das Vaka’ by the Portuguese and renamed Delft by the Dutch, after the town in the Netherlands. It covers approximately 4,700 hectares and is sparsely populated. Delft has emerged relatively unscathed from the recently ended conflict and has kept its charm from the old days. Except for the bus, there are no vehicles in the island and the visit to the island is usually made in the trailer of a tractor.

Visit the Kandy City. The last capital of the Sri Lankan kings which is a world heritage site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy lake built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1806, visit the Kandy town and bazaar, the arts and crafts center and a gem museum and lapidary. The evening is the best time to visit the temple of the tooth relic and thereafter witness a traditional cultural dance show.
